Prangan
Prangan is a sustainable recreational space designed for the Katwa Subdivision Office, transforming an underutilized site into a vibrant community environment. The project incorporates upcycled materials, locally sourced bamboo, and handcrafted elements to create shaded gathering spaces, seating areas, and landscape interventions that promote interaction, well-being, and environmental awareness.
Concept
Derived from the Bengali word for courtyard or communal gathering space, Prangan reimagines the traditional courtyard as a contemporary public realm rooted in sustainability and local craftsmanship. The design celebrates circular material practices through reused plastic bottles, discarded tyres, glass bottles, and clay tea cups, converting everyday waste into meaningful architectural elements. A bamboo pavilion forms the heart of the project, creating a shaded and naturally ventilated space that encourages social interaction and a stronger connection between people, culture, and the environment.
