Batayan
Batayan is a contemporary residence inspired by the idea of the window as a medium of light, air, and connection. Through layered spaces and permeable façades, the house creates a comfortable and naturally responsive living environment.
Concept
Derived from the Bengali word for "window" or "opening," Batayan explores the idea of architecture as a series of framed connections between the home and its surroundings. The design employs brick screens, shaded verandas, and deep openings to filter light, encourage airflow, and create a gradual transition between interior and exterior spaces. The project celebrates openness, climatic responsiveness, and the timeless character of vernacular architecture in a contemporary expression.
